| Background | A course syllabus provides an overview of a particular course and the modules studied as part of it. It takes the form of a course descriptor and module descriptors for each module studied, and includes a description of the course, its structure, its learning outcomes, information on careers and employability prospects, and assessment information for each module. Current students can download course and module descriptors from the My Modules page on My Student Record. Any queries regarding syllabi from current students should be directed to the relevant Student Records Service team. Former students who graduated after 2005 can purchase a syllabus through the online store at a cost of £75 per course: Course Syllabus Request | Sheffield Hallam University Online Store . These requests are managed by Academic Quality & Standards (AQS) through the inbox syllabusrequests@shu.ac.uk . There is a four week turnaround time on any order placed. As a result of records not always being complete it may not be possible to provide a full syllabus, and in these instances a refund will be offered. The university cannot provide a syllabus for students who graduated prior to 2005 as records do not exist. |
| FAQs | Does a course syllabus include information on placement hours? It does not, and any queries regarding this topic should be directed to the relevant professional placements team (as these queries are generally from health or education students). Does a course syllabus include information on teaching hours? No. Some syllabi – generally those which pre-date 2018/19 - include information on how many hours of study the university deems equivalent to each credit, and this is the closest information to teaching hours a syllabus will provide. Will my course syllabus be stamped? No, because AQS do not have access to a stamp. Students can however be provided with a headed PDF letter via email confirming the authenticity of their syllabus. Do the Certificates team deal with course syllabus requests? The Certificates team are responsible for award certificates and academic transcripts, however do not have any input into the syllabus request process. Enquiries should be forwarded to syllabusrequests@shu.ac.uk . Can SRS provide course or module descriptors? They can assist with enquiries from current students who can download these documents themselves from MSR. Former students (post-2005 graduation) can only access these documents through purchasing a course syllabus on the online store. |
